Boston’s premier funk & soul. Redefined.
Andy Murachver
keyboards
Andy Murachver, aka Murray or "the Rabbi of Soul," is known as much for his creative Halloween costumes as he is for his skills behind the keyboards. In 2007, he graced the stage of Felt Lounge in Boston wearing the trademark red cardigan sweater made famous by longtime children's television host/puppet master Mr. Rogers.
Fashion sense aside, Murray has been performing on the piano consistently since his mid-teens. Growing up in Framingham, MA, Andy had an opportunity to travel to St. Petersburg, Russia with his high school orchestra and jazz band in 1997. During this cultural exchange program, he played 2nd trumpet with the jazz band and also performed a piano solo at the summer palace of Peter the Great.
From 1999 to 2003, Andy attended the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, and it was here that he expanded his abilities in jazz and popular music, studying jazz piano with Joan Wildman and jazz ensemble work with bassist Richard Davis.
Upon graduating, Murray was hired by Royal Caribbean Cruises, and he spent most of 2003 and 2004 performing as a sideman for their onboard orchestras in such exotic locations as Baja Mexico, the Mediterranean, and the southern and eastern Caribbean. During this "tour of duty," Andy also had the privilege of sharing the stage with such performaers as Charro, Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees, and Herb Reed and the Platters.
Now back in New England, Andy performs with 2HC and the Beantown Swing Orchestra, and is already fervently planning next year's Halloween costume. He is keeping himself available to become the next organist at Fenway Park.
